Kayla Dare is a Professional Piano Teacher with over 25 years of experience. She teaches learners of all ages and levels, from young beginners to advanced students.
Kayla studied under University of Iowa T.A., Suzanne Oemig, in high school, and FBBC Music Professor, Tim LaFleur, in college. Their mentorship prepared her to win 1st Place at State TFC competitions two consecutive years, earning scholarships and the opportunity to perform at the Hilton Coliseum for the TFC Nationals Program. Additionally, she placed 1st and 2nd for consecutive local talent competitions, advancing to the Iowa State Fair. During college, she was invited to solo perform and accompany for major campus events, conferences, “Evening of Classics,” student body gatherings, and graduations. She also concluded music student recitals and traveled to accompany for the college.
Kayla was selected to represent the Music Department by performing a Master Class with World-Renowned Classical Pianist, Sam Rotman, MM, Juilliard. Being chosen by the music faculty was an incredible honor.
Beyond college, she performed as Pianist for Von Maur, weddings, celebrations of life, venue teas, volunteering, worship, retreats, and national conferences.
Her teaching style blends kindness with structure. She typically uses an all-in-one method book course as a foundation while encouraging students to learn the music they truly love. Many of her students write original compositions and arrangements, or accompany themselves while singing.
Kayla holds formal training in both music education and elementary education, complemented by a post‑graduate Middle School endorsement. She has also received training at various music studios and fine arts schools, including Parlando School for the Arts in Boulder, Colorado. Kayla enjoys being involved in several piano teachers groups, and is a member of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).
Many of Kayla's students have gone on to pursue music professionally. Some examples include: Piano Professor at Lawrence Conservatory, a local high school choir teacher, current Music Production Major, viral music tiktok performer, worship leaders, and performers. Some of her students go on to pursue un-related career paths (or related, some might contend!), and enjoy playing music for themselves and others.
In the words of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, "Teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea". Kayla hopes to truly enhance the lives of her students through the many benefits and joy of music!
